‘We Love Our Joe’ promotion back

for second season at regional Dunkin Donuts

State College, Pa. – Joe Paterno, the winningest coach in major college football, was a big proponent of the instant replay. A questionable call in a close game can impact the outcome of a game.

No one is questioning the outcome of the “We Love Our Joe” campaign that kicked off last year.  The successful coffee promotion, which generated funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA), is back for another season at the Dunkin Donuts in Central Pennsylvania. 

In this football frenzy town that swells to the third largest city in Pennsylvania on game weekends, everyone loves joe — joe the coffee and Joe the coach.

The “We Love Our Joe” campaign kicked off  September 1 and runs to December 1, 2010. Organized by Wildcat LLC, a Dunkin Donuts franchise in Central Pennsylvania, the promotion will appear in eight stores. It will appear in four locations in State College, as well as stores in Clearfield, Johnstown, Chambersburg and Breezewood.

The central aspect of the promotion is the sale of “We Love Our Joe” mugs, which will retail for under six dollars. Customers will get free coffee with the purchase of a Tumbler Mug featuring either a profile photo of Joe Paterno or a caricature of “JoePa.” A portion of proceeds from the sale of the mugs support Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA). During the promotional period, Wildcat Dunkin Donuts franchise also will donate a portion of proceeds from every cup of coffee sold (hot or iced) to SOPA.

Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) is one of the Paterno family’s favorite charities. Sue and Joe Paterno have been Special Olympics advocates for more than two decades. Sue Paterno has served on the Board of Directors for more than 15 years. She also heads the Ceremonies Committee for SOPA’s annual state-level Summer Games competition hosted by Penn State University. More than 2,000 athletes participate in the Summer Games. Joe and Sue were inducted into the SOPA Hall of Fame in 2008.

“We are privileged to see firsthand and be inspired by the athletes when they come to Penn State for their Summer Games,” says Joe Paterno. “Special Olympics reaches so many incredible people throughout the state, touching not only the athletes but a vast network of volunteers as well. Sue has been a tremendous supporter and we are happy to do everything we can to further the goals of Special Olympics Pennsylvania.”

In addition to the “We Love Our Joe” mugs, the promotion also features “We Love Our Joe” eye black stickers – the black tape football players wear to prevent sun glare. Fans can show their love for both joes by wearing the eye black stickers on their cheeks. Proceeds from the sale of the stickers also benefit SOPA.
